Optimization and weight lightening of typical shear wall with different shapes of openings

In this project, an algorithm has been written with use of Mechanical APDL to eliminate the elements which carry the least loads in each optimization stage. After some killing steps, the model would get the lightest weight with the same load capacity as the whole model.


Indeed, the algorithm has been written with ability of modeling different shapes of opening like as circular, triangular and squared figures in the shear wall and doing the optimization based on it. The parameters chosen for geometry and one loop of optimization process have been illustrated in the following figures.
