Drawing Analysis of a Wheel Rim with Fatigue Evaluation with Various Holes

In this Scientific Collaboration, I have numerically investigated the forming process of an wheel rim.

 

The forming process included 5 stages which two of them were about trimming and the remaining stages were about forming. A quarter model of the rim has been prepared with Altair Hypermesh and analyzed with LS-Dyna. Here are the three process that I have modeled.

The three forming phases can be seen at the following picture.

In this study, the rim has been considered with a variety of shapes and number of holes (between 12 to 18 holes) and a completely inverse cycle has been employed to evaluate the fatigue performance. Some results with regard to one step loading have been illustrated in the following pictures.

 

Nine elliptical holes

 

Twelve elliptical holes

 

Twelve circular holes

 

Eighteen circular holes

 

Sixteen trapezoid holes
